Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

A Promise Kept: Celebrating our Collective Achievement of Securing Commitments to Enrol 10 Million OOSC

“Coming together like this, with all our partners, to learn from one another, share experiences and lessons from the field whether it concerns enrolling OOSC, community engagement or M&E is truly a humbling moment for Educate A Child (EAC), because we get to see firsthand the growth and the wisdom gleaned from our efforts to increase education access to world’s most marginalised children” remarked Dr Mary Joy Pigozzi, Executive Director of EAC, during the second-ever partners meeting.

On the heels of successfully launching the 10 Million Milestone Event at the New York Public Library, EAC seized the occasion by assembling the leadership and representatives from almost every member of its vast partnership network on 28 April. In addition to commemorating the pivotal moment in EAC’s history, the daylong conference, “A Promise Kept: Celebrating our Collective Achievement of Securing Commitments to Enrol 10 Million OOSC” covered critical subject areas in support of OOSC, strategies for effective identification and tracking, and leveraging resources. The conference featured presentations from EAC partners, such as Aide et Action, Aprendiz, Bharti Foundation, CARE Haiti, Dhaka Ahsania Mission, Plan International, UNICEF Kenya, World Vision, as well as presentations and workshops from staff on advocacy, lessons learned and EAC’s strategic plan.

The Promise Kept Conference was enormously successful, as partners and staff critically reflected on each other’s role, contributions and how to create a greater impact going forward on education sectors and OOSC worldwide. At the conclusion, Dr Pigozzi stated “This partners meeting was exceptional and I think we’re all better for it. Particularly, at this moment in EAC’s history, we need the collective introspection, because our work to help children realise their right to education goes on.”
