Ethnic minority and remote communities are often excluded from the public education system. They face challenges of poor infrastructure, insufficient government investment, low teacher attendance, marginalization for ethnic and linguistic reasons and a lack of financial resources.

“We are delighted to welcome UWS as a partner collaborating with EAC to reach out of school children in three Asian countries.” Said Fahad Al Sulaiti, CEO of EAA. “ This partnership accelerates our efforts to reach our goal of 10 million children and facilitate access to education to children in areas that are difficult to reach” he added.

Dr. Mary Joy Pigozzi, Executive Director of EAC said: “This partnership will address the diverse factors inhibiting access to quality primary education. We are confident that UWS’s approach to reaching out of school children through bridging local communities and consulting with local education ministries will support both enrolment and retention.”

Tim Howarth, Chief Executive of UWS, said: “UWS and EAC are both committed to working towards the goal of universal primary education. EAC’s co-funding will help catalyze support, enabling us to reach more out of school children, in more communities, who would otherwise never have the opportunity to learn to read, write and count. This will transform their life chances.”

UWS has a successful model that “teaches the unreached” through the building, resourcing and running of local schools, developed in partnership with communities. The partnership will see 163 schools built, introduce teacher training and empower School Support Committees to support attendance and retention.

"Humanity will not overcome the immense challenges we face unless we ensure that children get the quality education that equips them to play their part in the modern world." -- HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser
