Education Interrupted: Getting back on track with Assalam Schools

“I was going to school after three years gap since my father passed away due to cancer. I thought the children taller and older than me in my class might pick on me. But the school supported me to develop my lost confidence and all of us (students) are nice to each other as that’s what is taught to us at school.”

Abdul Rehman’s mother explained how their world crashed when their father was diagnosed with and lost his war to colon cancer. Abdul Rehman and his two elder sisters had to drop out of school due to financial crises after their father passed away. 

These days, Abdul Rehman, the appointed head boy of First Assalam School, attends his classes in the evening due to being over age as compared to his Grade 5 peers. He elaborates how he and his other class fellows find it challenging to be studying in the evening however cherish the opportunity provided to them. Abdul Rehman enthusiastically added: “I think we should avail every opportunity that comes our way. Assalam School has provided me with a great opportunity to get back to education and supported me to cover my three-year educational gap in a single year with extra support and activities. I am grateful about it and try to do my best.”
