The Digital School Program is a hybrid self-learning model that offers out-of-school children and youth (OOSCY) a second chance at education by providing a way for them to learn at any time, any place and for any duration using technology and a flexible learning model. These OOSCY are left behind because our school systems are not designed to accommodate their challenges of full-time jobs, displacement, lower levels of learning compared to their age, distance to schools and other such reasons.
Therefore, this program is designed to be personalized to their level of learning and language pathways. Recognized and purposeful learning will lead students to reintegration into the formal education system or towards vocational education and employment. The model is also designed to scale by tackling the acute shortage of qualified teachers by specializing their role and expanding their reach. We will deliver the pilot program through a scalable ecosystem of partners.
DSP has been piloted in India and has reached 2200+ children and youth, and is reaching an additional 1500 learners in its second phase. We have upcoming pilots in Zambia and Uganda.
DSP has supported learners in becoming literate with an observed growth of 35%. The illiteracy rate among learners in the India pilot dropped from 78% to 43% in the span of a few months under this program.
