Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

Schools for Angola

In partnership with EAC, RISE International will launch a school-construction project in Angola’s Benguela, Bié and Luanda provinces. The project is a two-and-a-half-year initiative, seeking to enrol 24,000 OOSC and construct 25 new schools. In the main, RISE International aims to facilitate educational access by providing the necessary school infrastructure to children who have been impacted by war and its aftermath, poverty, disease and a lack of basic social services. Through partnerships with local government and officials from the Ministry of Education, the project will also be able to provide essential materials, such as desks, chalkboards and textbooks, as well as hire school teachers.

RISE International will track the numbers of schools built and students in attendance. The organisation will also obtain enrolment and retention data from project schools and the Ministry of Education to crosscheck and validate the accuracy of the data. Project staff will visit schools, engage with students and report on the impact of project interventions and financial management. RISE International commits to providing required/supplemental documentation. As it happens, UNICEF is working with the Government of Angola to address issues pertaining to quality education and RISE would share data and collaborate with those two entities to augment the efficacy of project activities.

At the project’s conclusion, RISE International has an agreement in place to handover the newly-constructed schools to the target communities and local education authorities.

*EAC would like to thank the ExxonMobil Foundation for its generous co-financing contribution to this project.
